One Year In The Life Of PortalPanel

PortalPanel is more than one year old but last year was the year when PortalPanel got out of its cradle and could take some major steps towards maturity.Last year was also the year of wonders in the cyber world. It was a year when giants of Internet surprised the world and not all of these surprises were good news. Breach of privacy and cyber spying dominated the news. The story of Edward Snowden and the revelations by him and Wikileaks hit the headlines everywhere; however the fear of the eyes behind the screens did not deter people from using the Internet, it simply reminded them of how fragile the boundaries of privacy were on the Internet. Users of two popular Internet services possibly received the most disappointing news from the giant of all cyberspace giants, Google. When Google terminated Google reader and iGoogle services, millions of user from across the globe were left with nothing but last minute resolutions. The soar, plateau and in some areas decline of the popularity of some websites revealed that even the most successful websites can lose their popularity to some of the most unlikely rivals.

At the beginning of 2013, PortalPanel started to offer its users a professional bookmarking service. This service even in its primary form was appraised by many users to be a very powerful online bookmarking tool.  PortalPanel bookmarking service went through some massive improvements, a few of which went undetected by some users. Adding the ability of watching You Tube and Vimeo clips on PortalPanel environment was one of them. This ability helped users to have their own list of favorite You Tube and Vimeo clips without the need of opening a new account on YouTube or Vimeo.  PortalPanel also offered smart link recognition service. This service allowed users to check updates of specific items on eBay and Amazon without the need for direct click on these websites. PortalPanel used the same service to allow users to save links from IMDB and Rotten Tomato as well.

This was not all. 2013 was the year when PortalPanel responded to the need of millions of users who were disappointed by the decision made by Google to terminate Google Reader and offered them NewsPortal, one of the best RSS feed readers on Internet. The combination of this powerful service and other facilities that PortalPanel offers absorbed a large migration of users from Google Reader to PortalPanel. What was important was that this service unlike some of its rivals was completely free. PortalPanel did not stop its move towards betterment neither did it hasten the pace. It looked at users and what they needed. Thanks to its users’ feedback, PortalPanel worked on its link recognition service and improved it by incorporating Instagram links to its already existing tools. This new option gave users the ability of creating their own Instagram albums on PortalPanel environment. They could then view these saved images without the need of being logged in on Instagram.

PortalPanel is more than a simple Internet page. It is a home where users can safely keep their browsing data and take them wherever they go. PortalPanel has new projects for 2014 which would soon change the task of online browsing to the joy of online browsing regardless of where users are and what gadget they use.

At PortalPanel team we wish all of our users a happy New Year.
